YATEC Diary – 5th session
Presentation and sales skills were the topic for discussion for participants of the Young Australian Tourism Export Council’s National Development Program last week.
The common theme around Tuesday’s presentation was preparation, with both Kingfisher Bay Resort Group international sales and marketing manager Stephanie Siebert and Connections general manager Lance Batty telling the group that preparation and knowledge of your audience was integral to sales appointments and presentations.
Siebert explained that while sales people require good sales skills, organisation, listening and navigation were all key aspects to running a successful sales meeting.
As part of preparation, Siebert said a salesperson must know their client’s needs as well as market trends specific to that client. An interesting point to consider is also how to address that client in relation to their culture ie bowing, shaking hands or kissing on cheeks.
Batty said that the industry’s young members should be looking for opportunitites to use their presentation skills so future employers stand up and take notice. He said though that presentations should be engaging and not proof that you can read off a slide, so don’t use powerpoint as a crutch!
