Wicked Campers introduces new vehicle safety checklist

Wicked Campers has announced a new safety and cleanliness checklist for customers.

The checklist will include all major mechanical components such as tyres, brakes, seatbelts, windscreen, headlights, oil, water and fuel, as well as a road test and full under-body check.

Following the mechanical inspection and an interior cleanliness check, both the Wicked Campers mechanic and the customer will be required to sign the document.

The move comes after the state Department of Transport asked the company to submit its entire Queensland fleet for safety inspection.

Wicked owner John Webb said the new procedures will be added to existing safety measures. He added: “We understand that customer safety comes first. When you hire a Wicked Camper, the only thing to worry about is where to go next.”

  2. In theory the checklist sounds like a great idea, but there are a few issues in this approach.

    1) Customers are not mechanics. How can they be expected to know if everything is working aproperly? I am as likely to sign off a mechanical checklist of a wicked van as I am for a plane. It is the operators responsibility. End of story.

    2) How much extra time will this add to the pick up process? These things really need to be checked before the customer arrives to pick up. The customer does not want to have to go through a mechanical checklist when they could be starting their next adventure.

At any rate, any efforts Wicked (and all operators in all sectors of the tourism industry) take to improve safety are to be commended. I have a feeling this one will get some tweaking though.
