The industry’s great challenge: to deliver higher standards at a competitive price

Explore Whitsundays director Al Grundy has said maintaining standards in a price-driven market is a a challenge the industry must meet to avoid an online backlash.

Speaking at a BTAP/Backpacking Queensland forum in Brisbane last week, Grundy said: “Today’s travellers expect air-conditioning, flat screen TVs and ensuite bathrooms and our challenge is to deliver that for $25 to $30. Everybody wants it cheaper.”

He warned companies which failed to do so would suffer the consequences. “If we’re not (offering high standards), our customers will let everybody know via their blogs,” he said.

Grundy added although distribution is changing, it is still “critically important” to promote Australia and Queensland to potential customers face-to-face.
