She’s a Jinks
TNT Events and Promotions Manager Denise Jinks escaped with a stiff talking to and a fine this week despite wilfully abusing Australia’s strict traffic laws.
Trouble started for Jinks (pictured) when she “inadvertantly” reversed the company ute into a parked car late last year. After a close inspection, the hapless driver satisfied herself there was no damage and continued on her way.
Sadly for Jinks, a good citizen (later described by the perpetrator as a “nosy old cow”) took down her particulars and reported her to the boys and girls in blue.
Some months later, TNT Managing Director Ian Wakeling received a phone call from the police and Jinks found herself accused of failing to reverse with due care and attention and leaving the scene of an accident. Mysteriously, the victim’s statement alleged the collision had caused a cracked number plate and dented bumper.
Despite protesting her innocence and offering to pay for the alleged damage, Jinks was told it was too late and the matter would have to be dealt with in court.
Which brings us to Tuesday, when a demur but clearly terrified Jinks found herself in Waverley Local Court surrounded by Bondi’s most dangerous criminals. One desperate villain even stood accused of riding a bycycle into a taxi while intoxicated.
Representing herself, and armed with testimonials from her employers, Jinks opted to plead guilty “with an explanation your honour”. After carefully considering all submissions, including one from Wakeling explaining Jinks could lose her job if she lost her licence and might even be deported, the kindly magistrate opted to fine her $200 plus costs.
Afterwards, a relieved Jinks said: “Blimey, that’s a result. I spend more than that on a night at the Ivy or a new hair-do.”

Denise Jinks – nearly deported! She used to be such a nice girl, it’s that TNT bunch, bad influence!
