Ryanair next in line for standing room only aircraft

Irish airline Ryanair is taking its ‘no frills’ reputation to another level with the carrier proposing a standing-room-only aircraft in a bid to increase capacity and cut costs.

Michael O’Leary, the airline’s chief executive is said to have discussed the plan with plane manufacturer Boeing, the Daily Mail reported, with the next step to obtain approval from the Irish Aviation Authority.

By installing stool-like seating with a seatbelt that fastens around the waist, the move is predicted to increase capacity of its aircraft by 30 per cent.

The news comes after Chinese carrier, Spring Airlines announced a proposal for a standing-room-only aircraft to be submitted to China’s aviation regulator by the end of the year.

The cost cutting measure is just one of the many Ryanair has proposed over the last year, including charging passengers to use the onboard toilet.
