Guidebooks still top preference for British travellers

British travellers still prefer to use traditional guidebooks when researching their next travel destination, a survey conducted by a UK hotel comparison site has shown.

Out of 4,000 travellers surveyed by Trivago.co.uk, 45 per cent rated guidebooks as the most likely to influence their travel choices, the SMH reported.

15 per cent said advertising and holiday brochures were most influential, ten per cent based their decisions on experience while price was the key influencer for nine per cent of respondents.

Despite doubling its traffic in 18 months, TripAdvisor and other online review websites were only rated number one by seven per cent of respondents. TripAdvisor’s traffic has grown to 12.3 million monthly unique visitors.
