  6. Don’t worry, Cairns. It’s all spin and puff. Try and find a $185 pass on Greyhounds website that gets you from any major starting point to Airlie. Even Brisbane to Airlie is $240.

Anyone who buys a pass to Airlie can travel the rest of the way to Cairns with us for $40.00.

    We’ll look after you.

  8. To Help the traffic route between Cairns and Airlie, what the industry really needs is airline support between Cairns and the the Whitsundays. Airlie beach has daily direct connecting flights to all east coast Capitals, Melbourne , Sydney and Brisbane. Its the Airlines we need to convince to replace the Hamo-Cairns Turbo prop. With Cairns as an international Airport I do not understand the lack of foresight for no one servicing this potentially huge link. Cairns and Airlie marketeers need to work together to make this happen…It takes a team to kick a goal….

  10. Yes indeed Mr Roberts. However, the onus relies perhaps on the agents in Airlie to respect Cairns as a destination and to accept the idea of selling travel in and around the wonderful far north. As it stands Cairns has always been the brunt of bad publicity from ill informed ‘agents’ from the one horse town. Our travellers that make it here are too very often told that they have seen the rainforest and the Reef from Airlie and there is no need to go to Cairns… if you were to weigh up the amount of travel that is sold into Airlie verses the amount of travel that is sold from Airlie into Cairns I am sure you would find a startling imbalance. Cairns in fact is a great supporter of the Whitsundaze, if only Airlie would be so appreciative to reciprocate… We here have for the past 4 years, 3 times a year cordially invited ‘agents’ from Airlie to join us on our all expenses paid famils, but yet have 1 agent accept…
I agree, we are one Queensland, work together… can you spread the word down there mate?

  12. Planes? Well I’m sure Greyhound will join us here at Oz Experience in celebrating air travel between Airlie and Cairns. And the Ayr, Bowen, Townsville, Magnetic Island Cardwell, Ingham, Innisfail, and Mission Beach crew will certainly be waving rapturously at the planes of backpackers flying past while the life is sucked out of their businesses.

You could call it The Republic of Whitsundays Airlines. Useful when the roads are closed.

  14. I have should have qualified my first statement by saying Tourism industry, the Backpackers will always prefer travel at ground level as they came to see the country not fly over it. The Bligh Government yesterday announced a 7 million dollar upgrade to our old Airport so obviously they agree with the need. I believe in cooperative marketing not destination marketing.

  16. Perhaps you could assist us with asking the council where we can legally and for free park coaches. The airports a little too far away.

Have your say
