DIAC calls for feedback on simplifying visa system

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship is calling for industry feedback on a discussion paper aimed at simplifying and streamlining Australia’s visa system.

Currently there are three broad categories under which non-citizens seek to enter and stay in Australia which are visitors, temporary entrants and permanent migrations. These broad categories are then broken down into 149 visa subclasses which the department is aiming to combine to create a more simplified structure.

Suggestions or comments are to be submitted to the Director, Deregulation Strategy Section at deregulation@immi.gov.au or PO Box 25 BELCONNEN ACT 2615 by 16 July 2010.
