Cairns is cheapest city in Australia for hotel beds

Cairns is the cheapest city in Australia to book a bed, according to latest figures from Hotels.com.  

The seventh annual Hotel Price Index found the average hotel room in Cairns cost $117 per night in 2009, down from $127 in 2008. The Gold Coast was the next cheapest at $135 (down from $157 the previous year) followed by Sydney at $145 ($173 in 2008).

The only city to increase yield year-on-year was Perth, Australia’s most expensive city for hotel accommodation with an average price of $154, up from $152 in 2008.

The Hotel Price Index is a regular survey of prices in major destinations around the world, based on bookings made on Hotels.com.
