British Facebook users spurn travel agents and book online instead

A survey of 1,000 UK Facebook users by price comparison website hotels-fairy.com has found 81 per cent book their holidays online, compared to just 11 per cent choosing a travel agent and eight per cent booking over the phone.

And in a second poll to gauge who offers the best deals, 42 per cent cited websites such as Expedia and Lastminute.com as their top choice. Almost a quarter said booking direct with a hotel or airline was their preferred option, 20 per cent chose price comparison sites while only 14 per cent opted for travel agents.

Hotels-Fairy.com co-founder Tom Greenwood said: “Our surveys suggest people are turning their backs on high street travel agents in a big way.”

Hotels-fairy.com is a recently launched hotel price comparison site that compares the best prices from more than 30 rival online booking sites such as Travelocity.co.uk, Expedia and ebookers.com. Aimed at independent travellers, it has information on 200,000 hotels in 195 countries.
