ATEC unimpressed with Tourism Tasmania budget cuts

Australian Tourism Export Council managing director Matt Hingerty has expressed his concern over the Tasmanian government’s decision to cut the tourism budget for the state, labeling the decision as an “an attempt to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory”.

Hingerty said the state had benefitted greatly from tourism in the past and the cut will affect its competitiveness against other states in the country. “Since the 1990′s, no other state has shown such a consistent commitment to the industry and an understanding of just how important tourism is to the state’s development. The reduction in budget will severely impact on the effectiveness and competiveness of Tasmania’s marketing activities.”
