ATEC announces new backpacker membership category
The Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC) has announced a new membership category for the youth and backpacking sector.
The decision was made at a meeting of the ATEC National Board in Canberra yesterday, in partnership with the Backpacker Tourism Advisory Panel (BTAP), effective from the beginning of the new financial year.
New members will have access to the ATEC member database, networking opportunities and the power to lobby Federal and state governments as well as tourism bodies.
ATEC managing director Matt Hingerty said: ”This is fitting recognition of the prominence and potential of the inbound backpacker and youth market for the years ahead. ATEC recognises that today’s backpacker is tomorrow’s business or holiday tourist, and that it is essential that we don’t miss any opportunity to develop our industry.”
Fees for the new membership category are still to be confirmed. Under the exisiting structure, members pay between $1,000 and $3,300 depending on the number of employees they have, with smaller companies under 20 staff paying the lower fee.
Application forms will be available in the coming weeks. For further details contact ATEC Industry Development Manager Jennifer Woodbridge at jennifer.woodbridge@atec.net.au
